Radioactive Scolopendra - DnD Monster

Here’s a creature I had the pleasure of modelling in 3D for a tabletop role-playing game project inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
This final boss, unofficially named “The Radioactive Centipede” or "Albert", is a towering 15-meter-tall entity that lurks deep within a mining complex, now a twisted underground labyrinth. The creature was born from a series of radioactive shell explosions, initially intended to enhance the energy yield of a rare mineral. Instead, the blasts triggered an uncontrollable contamination… and gave rise to this monstrous being.

Its exoskeleton is as hard as stone, making it nearly invulnerable. It relentlessly tunnels through the underground, reshaping the mines into an unstable, hazardous network laced with lingering radiation.

For some of the creature’s organic features—especially the radioactive pustules and blister-like growths—I drew inspiration from the Zerg designs in StarCraft II, whose biomechanical aesthetic had a strong influence on this concept.

-> Created using Maya for the base modelling and ZBrush for sculpting and organic detailing.
-> Render in Unreal Engine 5

I also had the chance to 3D print the creature and had a lot of fun painting it by hand as a physical miniature ! 🐛

Special thanks to my friends who contributed to this project:
Victor, for the camera animation;
Evangelos, for his valuable sculpting feedback (and for helping with the 3D print!);
and Tanguy, for sharing his insights into rendering with Unreal Engine.
Check out their work — it's always worth a look! 🤩
